On Wednesday Matthew is headed out to Durham, NC (to be an artist-in-residence at Duke Youth Academy). For 3 weeks. That wasn't a typo, he will be gone for 3 weeks. Sigh. So today he had a great idea to drop Abby off with the Cornells and go on a hike to have some adult time (well, and a small monkey tagged along). It was awesome!
I had actually done this same hike, amazingly, with joel 6 years ago. It was still beautiful :)
I have a history of torturing my kids by sticking their feet in freezing water. So far we are 0/2 for kids liking the experience.
Chilling out at the lake was more Matthias' style.
We were one happy couple with all that time to talk and be together. Abby, however, was a bit miffed at being left behind. Oh well, we're better people for our time together and that counts for something in this family! Right after picking her up though, we stopped in a goodwill by joel and bri's house and found a sweet backpack for strapping your kid in and hiking. Maybe we can go as a family next time!
We will be thinking of you while Matthew is gone. I'm sure you will think of lots of creative things to do with the kids. We miss you and have been thinking about you guys a lot lately!
